TAIPEI: Taiwan superstar Jay Chou revealed that he regretted not paying more attention in school and lamented his strict upbringing during the taping of a television programme on Friday, reported Chinese media.

Chou, who went to Hollywood to shoot "The Green Hornet", said it was very difficult for him as he did not speak any English at all.

"If I could go back in time, besides learning about music, I would also study English and martial arts," he said.

Chou also talked about his childhood and said that growing up in a family where both parents were teachers, was restrictive and stressful.

"My mother now looks genial in front of the media, but she used to be very strict and very fierce," he said, lamenting that he was constantly under supervision by teachers, both in school and at home.

He then recounted how his mother would stand silently behind him with a rod as he practised on the piano, and once hit him after he told her he no longer wanted to continue learning the instrument.

"She did it out of concern but she was so fierce."

"Children who grow up in households where both parents are teachers are actually very pitiful. Growing up in this environment made me a 'little strange', reclusive and lonely," said Chou.

"Especially since I am an only son, I could only talk to my piano."

:'(

I think my love for him has increased.

"You will never be alone"
